Toyota’s Digital Innovations organization is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Software Engineer focused on building AI-enabled products.Ā 

  

The primary responsibility of this role is to build product applications alongside AI — rapidly prototyping, experimenting, and shipping full-stack solutions that solveĀ real businessĀ problems.Ā You'llĀ operateĀ as a hands-on product builder: writing the code, shaping the experience, and iterating in tight loops with product, design, and business partners. At the core, you are a strong software engineer who uses AI in nearly everything you do to become an even better one — with real conviction about the role of AI in building products, and the curiosity and persistence to drive work to completion.Ā

WhatĀ you’llĀ be doingĀ Ā

  • Build and iterate on prototypes and production features across the full stack, using AI tools to move fast — partnering with senior engineersĀ on the path to productionĀ Ā 

  • Use AI as a force multiplier in your own workflow to move faster, experiment more, and turn ideas into working software in days, not monthsĀ Ā 

  • Partner closely with product and design to translate ambiguous problems into intuitive, well-crafted user experiences — bringing a builder's eye for what feels rightĀ Ā 

  • Integrate applications with enterprise data sources and APIs, wiring up retrieval, agents, and inference pipelines that work reliably in the real worldĀ Ā 

  • Run experiments, measure what works, and iterate quickly — bringing a hypothesis-driven mindset to everything you buildĀ Ā 

  • Learn the operation before building it — go to where the work happens, partner with domain SMEs and business owners, and ask questions first so you solve the right problem, not just a buildable oneĀ Ā 

  • Build in the quality controls that make AI reliable in production — evaluations and prompt-regression testing, hallucination and output-quality measurement, latency and token-cost management, guardrails, and PII and data handlingĀ Ā 

  • Use AI coding tools (for example,Ā GitHub Copilot,Ā Codex etc.) as a core part of how you work — and help raise the team’s fluency with them as they evolveĀ Ā 

  • Collaborate with enterprise tech and security partners to move POCs into production environmentsĀ Ā 

  • Stay current with the rapidly evolving AI landscape and bring fresh techniques, tools, and patterns into the team'sĀ

What success looks like (first 90 days)Ā 

  • By day 30:Ā you’veĀ gone toĀ gembaĀ on at least one business problem, mapped the current process with the domain team, and have a working prototype in front of usersĀ Ā 

  • By day 60–90: you ship aĀ demoableĀ buildĀ roughly everyĀ two weeks against named business problems, with evals and cost/latency instrumented so quality is observableĀ Ā 

  • You partner with senior engineering and enterprise security to move at least one prototype onto the path to productionĀ Ā

What you bringĀ Ā

  • Ā 3+ years of professional software engineering experience withĀ a track recordĀ of shipping production applicationsĀ Ā 

  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock, or similar) — including prompt engineering, function/tool calling, and RAG architecturesĀ Ā 

  • StrongĀ proficiencyĀ in at least one modern web framework (React, Next.js, or similar) — comfortable across the stackĀ Ā 

  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and modern deployment practicesĀ 

  • An eye for design and product craft — you care how things look, feel, and flow, not just whether they workĀ 

  • A bias for action and experimentation — you'dĀ rather ship a rough prototype and learn than debate the perfect specĀ 

  • Range and a strong technical mindset — equally comfortable operating as a full-stack builder one day and tackling deep engineering problems the nextĀ Ā 

  • Strong communicationĀ skills and the ability to collaborate across product, design, and business teamsĀ 

  • A portfolio you can walk us through — GitHub, live demos, or write-ups of AI-enabled productsĀ you’veĀ shipped, with your specific contribution clearly called out (required)Ā Ā 

  • ProficiencyĀ in Python and the modern AI tooling ecosystemĀ Ā 

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a blended, cross-functional (ā€œfusionā€) team — listens first, asks questions, and builds trust across product, design, domain, and engineering backgroundsĀ Ā 

  • Familiarity with what makes AI reliable in production — evaluation and testing, guardrails, and responsible data handling — not just demo-buildingĀ Ā
