Product Owner

Description

POSITION TITLE: Product Owner

LOCATION: Burbank, Los Angeles

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Position Overview

We are looking for a self-starter who will own the product roadmap and end-to-end delivery of a brand-new, greenfield order management integration platform. This critical platform will serve as the central exchange point for programmatic ordering, asset status, and delivery tracking between studio partners and Deluxe. Built from the ground up around a standardized data framework, you will lead the development of an extensible architecture of internal and external adapters (supporting API, event-based protocols, and more) to automatically transform complex partner inputs into standard objects that trigger our internal production systems across multiple lines of business (Localization, Cinema, and Fulfillment).

This role reports to the VP, Product for Cinema, with a dotted-line relationship to the SVP, Product for Localization & Media Services. Your initial focus will be creating the core platform and the first studio parter integration adaptors. As the platform matures over time, your responsibilities will expand to include the existing QC and Data I/O product lines.

The successful candidate is very technical: comfortable reading API documentation, working hands-on in tools like Postman, reasoning about JSON payloads and schema design, and translating complex, multi-party business workflows into clear, implementable user stories.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive the Integration Roadmap: Lead the product roadmap, backlog, and release planning for the core order management API and event-driven architecture. Partner with internal and external POs and stakeholders to align on shared data contracts, cross-functional workflows, and synchronize delivery timelines.
  • Requirements & User Stories: Define, write, and prioritize high-quality user stories with clear acceptance criteria. Translate intricate ordering workflows (order creation, change orders, asset/delivery status, exception handling, etc.) into concrete engineering requirements.
  • Partner Collaboration: Work directly with integration partners to gather requirements, validate designs, review schemas, and resolve technical blockers. Act as the primary product point of contact for external product teams.
  • Hands-on API Validation: Review and contribute to JSON/XML schema design, endpoint definitions, and API contracts. Use Postman to validate behavior, reproduce issues, demo functionality, and maintain a basic integration test suite.
  • Internal Integrations: Partner with internal product owners and engineering teams across cinema and localization to ensure the normalized order data can be used to integrate and automate fulfillments in the existing downstream systems.
  • Dependency & Lifecycle Management: Track delivery progress, proactively manage cross-team dependencies, and report status transparently to project managers and external stakeholders.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive product documentation including integration guides, release notes, and partner-facing materials.
  • Scope Expansion: Smoothly transition into owning product lines for QC and Data I/O as the integration platform matures.
    Β

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: 3–5 years of product ownership or product management experience in a fast-paced software organization.
  • Agile Expertise: Strong knowledge of agile development practices (Scrum and/or Kanban) with a proven track record of grooming backlogs and managing competing priorities across multi-party stakeholders.
  • Technical Literacy: Fluent in reading JSON and OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.
  • Hands-on Tooling: Comfort with Postman, curl, or similar tools. Able to construct, send, and interpret API requests independently to validate technical behavior.
  • Architectural Foundations: Working understanding of REST API design (HTTP semantics, auth patterns like OAuth/API keys) and event-driven architecture (pub/sub patterns, message schemas, delivery guarantees, dead-letter handling, idempotency).
  • Communication & Leadership: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to confidently lead technical discussions with engineers and external partners, pushing back on technical decisions when necessary while remaining collaborative.
  • Autonomy: Self-motivated, comfortable working with limited supervision, and exceptionally skilled at driving clarity out of ambiguous, multi-party design conversations.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience as a Product Owner for an external-facing API or developer-facing product.
  • Experience in the Media & Entertainment industry (specifically localization, cinema mastering/distribution, asset management, or digital supply chain).
  • Experience with schema design (JSON Schema, OpenAPI/Swagger, etc).
  • Strong technical background (professional, academic, or personal coding projects) with the ability to read and independently reason about application code logic.
  • Familiarity with MovieLabs and/or SMPTE specifications.
  • Experience using Claude and Claude Code (or similar AI coding agents) in day-to-day product and prototyping work.
